Weapons and Attacks

  • Great Bow - Good RNG and POW ranged weapon with a small AOE. When making ranged attacks, choose one of the following three shot types:
    • Brutal Damage - Gain an additional +d6 damage against models directly hit.
    • Snipe - This models non-spray ranged weapons gain a significant RNG boost.
    • Star Strike - On a direct hit everything under the AOE template suffers Continuous Fire rather than normal damage.
  • Sword - Low P+S melee weapon.

Thoughts on the Stormfall Archers

Stormfall Archers in a nutshell

Stormfall Archers are a pure offensive toolbox. Thanks to multiple ammo types they can be utilized in multiple ways: extra damage, long range aoe, source of fire. Getting them elevated on a hill or other terrain will greatly improve their ability to target the enemy and stay alive.

These models are obviously meant to keep distance between them and the enemy. Don’t tempt fate by walking them into enemy AoE range. Their low RAT is where people start to discount this unit, but they can easily stop and aim in order to throw their devastating AOEs with more accuracy. Combined with the Snipe shot option, this means that Stormfall Archers have an effective RAT of 7 against targets within 16", which is fairly respectable.

Combos & Synergies

  • Ossyan - His feat combined with Brutal Shot outputs a huge amount of damage. Their blast damage also gains a die from the feat.
  • Rahn - Turning enemy models around with Telekinesis boosts the Archers' RAT indirectly via the back strike bonus.
  • Garryth - Death Sentence helps compensate for the Archers’ low RAT, letting them re-roll attacks.
  • Ravyn - Snipe enables the Archers to use Star Strike or Brutal Shot at 16”, Veil of Mists protects them without hampering their own shooting, and her Feat, shooting into her Vortex of Destruction can be devastating
  • Issyria - The feat lets them hit Stealthed enemies, and increases the chance of hitting, and doing high damage.
  • House Shyeel Battle Mages - Force Barrier makes them immune to blasts and therefore Stormfalls won't damage them when shooting nearby targets, Critical Hits with Force Bolt also fixes their RAT
  • Banshee, Arcantrik Force Generator - Knockdown on the guns helps fix their RAT issues

Drawbacks & Downsides

  • Their low RAT means shooting on the move is bad news
  • Fire has a 2/3 chance to do nothing and often fails you when you need it most

Tips & Tricks

  • Knock them down, light em up
  • Shooting your own high-ARM low DEF models to light other models on Fire can be handy (especially against non-Reach models)
  • Star Strike is great against infantry under the Shield Wall order, as the order expires before continuous fire resolves.
  • Boosted POW 12’s kill casters, if you can Knock Down their caster use Brutal Damage on them
  • Use Snipe on early rounds to float some AoEs onto Stealthed models

Retribution Mercenary Index
Mercenary Warcasters
We shall kill each and every filthy arcanist and all their abominable mechanika.
Mercenary Warjacks
Different types of Mercenary warjacks can only be taken by specific Mercenary models ... which means there's too many permutations to list here (in any sort of meaningful way).

However, note that the following Retribution mercenary models can control warjacks/warbeasts (in addition to the Mercenary Warcasters listed above):

  • Note: To field a mercenary warcaster with Retribution (ha ha ha ha), you need to be playing a game which allows 2 (or more) warcasters.

Rules Clarifications

  • Snipe (the spell) and Snipe (the ability) are 'same-named effects' and as such do not stack with each other. Infernal Ruling
  • Snipe does not change the range of spray weapons or ones that have RNG = CTRL.

Continuous Fire
  • Note that warcasters do not have an overboosted powerfield when they take a Continuous Fire damage roll. (If you follow the steps correctly then: first old focus is discarded, then fire is resolved, then focus is replenished)
  • Warlocks are allowed to transfer damage if they had any fury remaining on them from the previous turn.
  • Fire effects are not affected by standing in water terrain, as strange as that may sound.
  • "Always on" buffs to ARM (such as Defensive Line) will help vs Continuous Fire.
  • "Lasts one round" buffs to ARM (such as Shield Wall) will not.

Elemental Damage, Criticals, and Continuous
  • I'm going to use "Fire" for this example, but the logic still applies to the other element types.
  • A weapon that has Critical Fire (or) Continuous Fire but NOT Damage Type: Fire does not actually do fire damage.
    • Hence the weapon can damage models that have Immunity: Fire.
    • Hence the weapon won't gain any boosts that affect fire damage (such as the Croak Raiders Oil effect).
  • The damage roll from Continuous Fire is fire damage and will gain boosts. Infernal Ruling
